Siena Part 2 - Random Cool Things

I’ve been in lots of hilly cities before—San Francisco, Taormina, Black Mountain. But I believe that Siena is the hilliest city I’ve ever walked. Especially after it started raining—those cobblestone streets just seemed so steep, both uphill and down!

But it’s pretty—really, really pretty.

Here is the piazza where they hold the Palio horse race, now twice a year instead of just once. The piazza looks big in the picture, but in person I didn’t think it looked big enough for a horse race. There’s a LOT of excitement and community pride with the Palio races, which I think is great. But there’s also a lot of danger for the riders and the horses, and you probably know how I feel about that.

This super cute cow’s head is on the side of the cathedral, just hanging out with the saints.

This cup of hot chocolate had the consistency of chocolate pudding Hot and SO thick!!
