I spent time today at the Basilica di Santa Croce. The cathedral is huge, the largest Franciscan church in the world, and was apparently founded by St. Francis himself. Its size, design, artwork and more give it much to be renowned for, but what impresses me most is the famous burials here. The burials and the “funerary monuments” (for those buried elsewhere) include Michelangelo, Galileo, Dante, DaVinci, Machiavelli and more!

Here are the ones I got pictures of:

Michelangelo:

Dante:

Galileo:

And I was surprised to see the tributes to these scientists, Enrico Fermi and Marconi.

The facade of the church looks like others in this area.

But the inside looks so huge!

Myris shared your blog with me! I have learned more from your blog than I did from History books in high school…or maybe the knowledge has slipped between the pages of my mind. 😊 Good for you for traveling to where you wish to go!
